Meeting held at Kirkland House Ceres at 7pm on Thursday 6th September 2007
Apologies: Grant McLeish, Bruce Rollo, Graham Findlay, Graham Pirie & Ian Donaldson
Present: Graham Bowen, Michael Hendry, Cliff Strong, Bill Low, Ian Copland, Ken McLaren, Bela Simandi, Sandy Mitchell.
Graham opened by welcoming members to the first meeting of our third year.
Sandy Mitchell introduced Judge Martin Dean who is a Maritime Archaeologist at St Andrews University. Martin used a different approach in his judging of the entries. Members were invited to select their top three excluding their own entries. The results also reflected Martin's opinion; as he went on to announce his top three:
Winner Sandy Mitchell
Balloon Flight over Loch Leven
2nd Graham Pirie
Hovercraft in the Forth
3rd Ian Donaldson
Train Journey in the Rockies
Martin then gave an interesting talk and showed slides of some of his work pointing out many of the pit falls and traps that budding photographers can fall in to. He finished by saying that only the best photographers get all the elements of a photo correct, i.e. getting all the ingredients in the right place at the right time. The best examples were people like Lee Miller, Ansel Adams, Bill Band and Edward Weston who had all published good books with their photos.
Vote of Thanks to Martin for his talk and for judging the competition was given by Bill Low
Next Meeting: 7pm Thursday 11th October at Linley, East Road, Cupar
Competition “Architecture” Judge TBA
Photos to be handed in by Wednesday 3rd October
Graham thanked Sandy & Wendy for their hospitality.
Meeting closed @ 9pm
Reminder: Members to e-mail their photos to Michael as soon as possible.
